Securing your home network
This can be done in several ways; by software firewall, hardware firewall or by wireless router. In order to determine which firewall to use depends on how many computers belong to the SOHO network and how the connection to the internet is made.
If the connection to the internet is made by a wireless router then depending on the type no further protection is required. However, not all wireless routers contain firewalls so additional protection would be required. A wireless router with firewall capabilities is the Netgear wireless broadnband router. This is easy to set up and sits between the SOHO network and the Internet.
Hardware router may also contain firewall capabilities and sits at the edge of the network between the network and the Internet. Wiring may restrict physical space but can protect multiple computers.
